Even if you’ve already visited the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, you’ll want to make a return visit to appreciate the new Artist Soldiers exhibit, which runs until November 11th, 2018.

This exhibition, which opened on April 6th, is designed to help visitors take a closer look at the relationship between art and war. Here, you’ll find World War I-era art from two very different perspectives. Take in works from professional artists who served in the American Expeditionary Forces, as well as soldiers who created work with whatever they could as a form of creative exercise. Taken as a whole, this collection is sure to shed some much-needed light on a life in combat.
