Southern Efficiency: A Taste of the American South Is Never Far From Hodge on 7th

fried oysters

Created by local restaurateur and cocktail critic Derek Brown and seafood impresario Travis Croxton, Southern Efficiency is a whiskey bar and restaurant that specializes in Southern comforts. It’s located just a short distance from Hodge on 7th and the Shaw metro, so it’s a popular spot to meet friends for a quick drink or to hang out for a few hours.

Some custom cocktails, like champagne juleps, are served on draft, while others (like the bar’s unique twist on the rye old fashioned) are mixed, well, the old fashioned way. (Interested in replicating some of these drinks at home? Sign up for one of the cocktail seminars offered regularly!) As for the food, the menu focuses on comfort foods like buttermilk biscuits, crispy fried pork belly, and rich, creamy macaroni and cheese.

Make note that Southern Efficiency doesn’t accept reservations, so be aware that during peak dining times you may have a short wait.
